How to Find the Password for Windows 2000 Pro
The Windows 2000 administrator password is used to oversee all of the accounts on a Windows 2000 computer. When you don't have your Windows 2000 administrator password, you might find yourself in a bind. Retrieving the password for your Windows 2000 system is a lot harder than resetting it. Resetting the password will allow you to change the password to something that is easier to remember.
- Place your Windows 2000 installation disc into the CD tray of your computer. Boot the computer and wait for the system to start up from the CD.
- Accept the User Agreement that appears on the screen. Press the "R" button on your keyboard when you are asked if you want to repair your system.
- Wait as the computer starts to copy the files to your hard drive. Allow the computer to restart. Press the "Shift" and "F10" keys together when you see "Installing Devices" at the bottom of your screen.
- Type "nusrmgr.cpl" into the command prompt when it appears on your screen and press the "Enter" key. Click on your administrator account in the "User Accounts" menu when it appears.
- Change the password by typing your new password into the fields on the window. Restart your system for the password to take effect.
